Getting to be a part of this amazing community in and of itself is amazing. Getting invited to an amazing event like Blitsy held a few weeks ago is just heaven. Not only do I get to meet other like minded individuals, people who understand the passion of stationary and ‘needing’ just one more planner, but I also had the pleasure of meeting venders and watching them perfect their craft.
During this event I firstly was just amazed at the studios. The studios are located in my hometown of Chicago and on a beautiful April day walking around the studio was just so inspiring. All the great places to decorate and get inspired to periscope and take great photos. We also were gifted swag bags full of amazing goodies to play with at home!! Each of the companies that shared goodies also shared some amazing ways to use the products. Deco foils shared some really creative ways to use foils to spruce up your dashboards and cards. I made a video sharing how I was able to add gorgeous foils to my calendar pages here.
Happy Planner also gifted some amazing goodies to add to my planner pages. I also love using the disc bound system because it’s so versatile. It’s a system that is completely customizable and you are all to do with it what you want, rearrange pages with great ease. One of the draw backs of a spiral bound planner is that you can’t add or take away pages so with the discs this takes that problem away.
Along with the amazing goodies and demonstrations I had the pleasure of meeting some amazing women that contribute to the planner community. Women who constantly inspire and allow for that little stationary elf in our minds to continue to add to our planners and change them out as often as we like. Stickers are such a large part of adding a little happy to our planners and I was fortunate enough to see many women display some very inspiring spreads in their planners.
While there a panel was put together to answer questions to the guest that attended the event. I had the honor being on the panel with some really amazing women to help me answer some questions.
After being on the panel I had the pleasure of getting some amazing pictures with some really wonderful women!!!
So many wonderful ladies who just continue to inspire me

I LOVE reading, I always have. The kindle Voyage has just completely changed how often I read and how much I read. I love to carry it around in my purse because anytime I’m in the doctors office or in line at the grocery store I can usually get through a few pages if not a chapter. I love that people can’t see what I’m reading and do to the fact that we are a digital world I just kind of blend right in when I am using it. I just can’t say enough amazing things about it.
Instagram and all the book tubers that are on there also help increase the volume of books I have been reading because it’s been one great read after another and I just can’t get enough.
So what am I boasting about in this post, well the title is Hawthrone & Heathcliff by Regina Wamba. Before you roll your eyes at the cheesy cover of the book believe me it’s worth a read. I love reading all types of books but I mostly prefer young adult because it’s truly for pleasure. This book I have to say is so well written and the characters are so incredibly well developed that I read the book in two days. I just devoured the book. Could not get enough and when I was not reading the book I was constantly curious what was to come of the characters. What would happen. The story is incredibly wonderful and pulling at your heart. You will cry, you will feel like life isn’t fair, you will even think I want to be her or him. The amount of emotions you will feel are incredible. The book is smart, and I know that’s an odd thing to say but it’s written in a very intelligent way, not the corny kind of teenager talk that you might find in R.L Stine, (even though I am still to this day a huge fan), it’s just well written.
Without giving anything away I love how the author makes something like old sneakers something very cute and romantic. You will know what I mean once you read it! If your a romantic I think this is right up your alley, if your not I think you will love it still for the story line and the real life hardships.
This is a book I will reread several more times, I can not tell you how many people I have recommended this book to and everyone has just completely fallen in love. The story moves so beautifully and deals with real life issues. It makes you FEEL, and that isn’t always possible with books. The author just does a phenomenal job. I gave this book five stars on good reads and wish I could give it ten!!
I recently posted a video on my YouTube where I shared more information on this topic. Ugly journaling…what is it? What does it even mean? Is there such a thing?
To me journaling has always been a best friend, someone who I can count on, not something that is aesthetically pleasing. I have had some type of a journal since I was about 8 years old and my journals were filled with what my days entailed, and going to the pool with my friends and who likes who and all that sorts. I have always added little stickers and embellishments and business cards and any other ephemera to my journals to help commemorate things that were important.
Once I joined the planner community and began to look at my instagram feed of all the beautiful pages that filled peoples journals I began to question my own. I thought well are my journals good enough? Mine don’t really look that good, and geez I never thought to include that into my journaling. I needed to stop myself before allowing this kind of thought enter me. Like I said my journals are my friends, my confidants. These pages are filled with love, happiness, sadness, anger and confusion. It’s a different kind of art that I have in my journals. They are pages that I don’t often want to share. They are not something that I want other to judge or to see me in such a personal and vulnerable state. I have spent years and years developing relationships with these books that it didn’t seem right to have to change that. What I have done instead is incorporated some of the ideas from instagram and pinterest to better my journal pages but not to change or judge my journals.
Whenever I speak to anyone about journals I always share with them that it’s YOUR journal it’s about you, that’s the most special part about it. No on else in the world is you. The thoughts and feelings that you have poured throughout these pages are incredibly special. You may not always realize this , especially when you first start a journal. You begin to realize the importance of this book once you are near completion. At that time you start to feel some sorrow that soon you will be parting ways with this friend. You won’t be saying good bye buy you might need to say ‘well old friend it’s time to move on to another chapter’. I have some journals that on the day I closed them I never wanted to open them again. I was thrilled to be moving on and working on something else. I have journals that have tear stains on them that when I do look at them I can see how much I have grown.
Journals are incredible treasures. Books that keep memories of your existence and no matter what they ‘look’ like they are incredible because they are yours. Do not be intimidated by others with beautiful instagram photos, instead take inspiration and realize that their journal most likely has ‘ordinary’ pages in it as well. People who are posting a photo to Instagram are showing their best work. I wouldn’t necessarily put up something that I didn’t think was great. Just know that the more you love and trust your journal the more treasured it becomes and becomes and extension of you!
